Our scouts have spotted some immigrants today and there was a Dungeon Master with them. We immediatelly started preparing for their arrival but something terrible happened. They walked right into an elven ambush and a battle errupted. I tried to close the access bridge and open the bunker but I have realised that my predecessors didn’t leave me any instructions on which one to pull. I have a slight feeling of a tragedy incoming.

As soon as I finally took over ruling over Shintig I have started drawing and laying down plans for reorganizing the fort. My greatest task will be to dig out completely new rooms and widen corridors. I’m afraid of dwarves getting stuck in the traffic and thus slowing us down in critical moments. We will firstly relocate our metalworks and magma-dependent workshops and establish organized stockpiles near them. After goods production I will take a look at our farms. I’m even afraid to think what kind of radical measures I will have to take there.

One of our planters, Nil Tomuscilob, was taken by a strange mood and he whitdrew from society. He has claimed a mason’s workshop. We will see what good will come out of this.

Seems like I finally have crawled out of my kitchen and took over some serious responsibility. I have been given leadership of the fort for one year. I have to say that I was very dissapointed by the layout of our fortress so there are some great changes incoming that will greatly improve functionality. I’m a bit scared due to the fact we can’t dig any deeper than we already did. There is also too much planters in our fort while missing some other basic professions. I see a few long and hard sleepless nights coming my way. I have to rething everything carefully.

Well, it seems like its my time to step down from this burden that i have carried for so long. At least it feels like a long time. One year of prosperous digging has finally come to an end and i am giving over the maps to our bureaucrat Rhenaya. She will, as mayor, elect the new leader for our fort for the coming year. At this moment the biggest challenges are organization of stockpiles, starting out the dyeing industry and making a better working order there and of course the survival against the damn pesky elves. I wish the next leader the best of luck and hope to gain immunity from all the faults that i have generated during the year. No really, i will need it.
Last but not the least, i wish to retire to my mining and at a later stage maybe join the military as a swordsdwarf. But that is later, now it is time to step down from this throne.

Horrible news. One of our dwarven babies was snatched today by the goblins. The baby’s mother Rigòth Komansazir , a planter of our, got surprised when carrying in a corpse from outside the fortress. We mourn the loss of our child Rovod Kadolenas.

Time to write something to the mountainhomes again. Its been a while since i had time to report to my superiors over the progress we are making here at Shintig. After the elven attack in spring we have been untroubled except for a few kobold thieves and some goblin snatchers. All of them are now rotting in our front yard! Also we had some prisoners of war that we made a drowning pool for. The useless filth was tossed down in the aquifer from 2 stories above. The civilians took great pleasure in eliminating them by tossing them down. Its not such an effective method to drown animals they say. But with archers comes killing power. A lot of organizing and further construction has taken place. The following list is what we have improved upon:

  • Made rooms for the new nobles Vooood and Rhenaya
  • Made a jail for Vooood to imprison the ones who break the law
  • Made a fortress guard to keep us safe
  • Constructing a method to seal the Fortification holes on the pillbox
  • Started constructing second level of pillbox
  • Made huge amounts of barrels and bins, even more are still needed
  • Dug out some more ore, oh i so love digging
  • Eliminated food and drinks shortage, now having shortage of stockpile space

There is still much to do and i am afraid that i will not manage to complete all the tasks under my rule. But i am confident that we will have a new ruler that will be more than able to complete the work that i have started. I am truly proud of my dwarves that seem to work with such haste that i wonder if they have ever been sober. We should still add some close combat soldiers when possible to be able to cut the heads of our opponents, but that will have to wait for the next immigrant wave.

Also Rhenaya seems to have really soft mandates and most of us like her. I am sure that when i say we should try to keep her as the mayor i speak for all of us. Yet something perverted and disturbing about her is the mandate to have a naked elven prisoner of war dancing for the liasons from the different cities. I was lucky she didn’t throw me in jail when i told her we executed the last prisoners. So i have to get one under the next siege or she will surely let me be beaten to death. Sometimes i wonder how it looks like outside the fortress. I think we have been inside for too long and there is a slight risk that we wont do well in battle anymore. That is why i propose we build a statue garden outside and wall it in for our own safety. Well i guess i can say we are doing well out here and that i hope to see many new faces with the next migration wave.

I will send the required map and  fort wealth calculations with this message. If you do not get them then i grant you permission to throw the messenger to the two-humped camels.

First off i ordered a pillbox to be built outside. This will help in keeping the filth away… I was just finished in time for the mid-spring invasion by the enemy. The following is a brief log of what happened during the battle:

During the battle i had to make sure the wrestlers knew they actually need bolts for using a crossbow. Well what can you expect, they are proessional wrestlers and not crossbowdwarves. Duing the ambush lockdown we also had some immigrants come. This took our population up to 56. While the immigrants where waiting they actually got stalked by a kobold thief. Luckily the thief was a wimp and ran off directly.

Also our expedition miner and Vooood got married during the invasion. It was nice to get my mind off the killing during the party. I wish them all the best and hope they live long and prosper.

In the end all went well and we even got ourselves a new mayor. Congratulations Rhenaya for the position. Now we will make you a new dining room and office. The position for Captain of the Guard is also open and i will find somebody fit for the job.

Now the frustrating part is at hand. Organizing the new immigrants.

Ok, i went over the records and seemingly ghoulsblade has made alot of changes in hes time as leader of the fortress. Still i have a feeling that i, Cribozai the expert miner, was chosen quite randomly from the fort. Really makes you think there is something going to hell in a handbasket. But i can’t quite put my finger on it.

After browsing the records i found the reason. Our fort is steadily going towards the deadly and horrible thing we dwarves know as a hangover. Thirst will soon make us all go insane and eventually die. Now i have to act fast or else the 16 drinks we have left will be our last.

Well, with stout labour comes sustenance and now i have to get out of my lovely mines and whip the brewer to make us some drinks.

Also, the other issues that need to be fixed are the lack of metal armour and weapons. And the lack of brave dwarves to carry them.

Change…

Im sitting in my bed, just woke up from a terrible nightmare about the devilish elves. Then all of a sudden somebody is banging on my bedroom door. I open the door and i see Rhenaya.

“Here are the documents for your leadership”, she says in her always cheerfull voice.

As she hands over the papers she smiles and in a weird way i could tell by the look on her face that what she really ment to say was, “You’re screwed!”. I lift my right eyebrow in sign of “is it that bad” and she answers me with a nod referring to “Yes it certainly is”.

Ok. Time to get to work, first to inspect all the stuff and make a plan for the future. A better future, where only elves die with a dwarf smiling upon them and thrusting his sword deeper.

Time for change.
